Competence Group 3 - CG3

Technical: Manufacturing & Certification

CG3 focuses on the technical backbone of Europe’s drone industry: how drones are designed, built, tested, and certified. The group serves as a forum for manufacturers, engineers, and regulators to address challenges that shape the competitiveness and safety of the sector.

Its work ensures that technical standards and certification pathways are both rigorous and proportionate, supporting innovation while protecting public safety and trust. CG3 also tracks emerging technologies, ensuring that Europe’s rules remain future-proof and globally competitive.

Current priorities include:

  • Analysing certification requirements and supporting their consistent application across Member States.

  • Contributing to the development of technical and interoperability standards for UAS.

  • Facilitating dialogue between manufacturers, operators, and authorities on safety, testing, and quality assurance.

  • Monitoring innovations in design, materials, automation, and systems integration, and assessing their regulatory impact.

By addressing technical and certification issues at the European level, CG3 helps reduce fragmentation and ensures that Europe remains a leader in safe and innovative drone manufacturing.
